Gull Glaucous

Glaucous Gull (Larus hyperboreus)

This is a scarce visitor to northwest Europe. It is a large powerful gull somewhere between a herring gull and a great black-backed gull. It forages at refuge tips , outfalls and fish quays it will often roost on reservoirs inland with other gulls.

These photographs were taken at Slimbridge WWT where it was a welcome if unexpected arrival. The photographs were taken using a 500mm prime with a 1.4 tc.
