Yellow Hammer (Emberiza citrinella)

Lives in open countryside in bushes and scattered trees. Has a very distinctive call often characterised as ‘little bit of bread and no cheese’.

Form loose flocks in winter and northern populations migrate south. They feed mainly on seed and some invertebrates. The nest is on or close to the ground amongst vegetation. The 3 - 5 eggs hatch after 13 days.
