Flycatcher

Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata)

This bird is a master of flight, swooping in the air to catch it’s insect lunch. It is a summer migrant to woodland glades and gardens. It winters in Southern Africa. It will nest in a cavity or among vegetation against a tree or a wall. The 4 - 6 eggs will hatch after 13 days.

We photographed it by using a car as a hide and keeping the camera on CH shooting mode. It was against a dark woodland so the use of a high iso on the Nikon D3s made a significant difference.
